Inside the launch of a boutique South Florida hotel

What 14 pre-opening placements actually took behind the scenes.

Fourteen pre-opening placements. Six months of work. One very tired GM.

The playbook: exclusive design reveals to two national desks, a soft-open weekend for regional press, and a slow drip of local lifestyle content in the four weeks before the doors opened.

By launch night, the hotel had already been photographed, described, and endorsed. All the opening had to do was live up to the story we'd told.

The first ninety days were quiet on purpose. No teasers, no countdowns — just a design story built room by room, with a photographer who knew the property better than most of the staff did.

At day one hundred, we started placing the exclusives. Two national design desks got first look, in exchange for a full-page treatment. That set the ceiling. Everything after it was allowed to be smaller and more specific.

The soft-open weekend was regional press only. Twelve editors, two nights, one prix-fixe menu the chef will never run again. Half of them filed the following week. The other half filed the week after that, which turned out to be better timing anyway.

Local lifestyle content ran on a drip through the four weeks before launch — a bartender profile here, a room tour there, a staff-picks playlist on a Sunday. By the time the doors opened, the hotel already had a personality.

The lesson, again: pre-opening PR isn't about the opening. It's about giving the room enough of a story that the opening becomes the punchline, not the pitch.
